The Game
What is ArcheryTag®?
Think dodgeball meets archery. Two teams face off on a field and try to hit opposing players with foam-tipped arrows using lightweight recurve bows. It is fast, competitive, and completely pain-free. Games typically run 8–10 minutes, and we run multiple rounds during your session.
Does it hurt to get hit?
Virtually no pain. The foam tips are specifically designed to absorb impact. Most people say they are more surprised than hurt when struck. ArcheryTag® has maintained a stellar safety record since it was invented in 2011.
Is it safe?
Yes. Facemasks are required for all players and our staff gives a full safety briefing before every game. Teams are separated by an 18-foot neutral zone, so the minimum shooting distance is always 18 feet. We have never had a serious injury at a Sherwood Adventure event.
What is HoverBall®?
HoverBall® is our inflatable target activity. Instead of shooting at other players, participants aim at floating ball targets using the same lightweight bows and foam-tipped arrows. It is a lower-pressure option that is great for younger kids, mixed-age groups, and festival settings.
What is the difference between ArcheryTag® and HoverBall®?
ArcheryTag® is a competitive team game where players shoot at each other (ages 10 and up). HoverBall® is a target-shooting activity where players aim at floating inflatable balls (ages 7 and up). Both use the same safe equipment — HoverBall® is just lower-stakes and works great alongside ArcheryTag® at larger events.
Players & Age
Who can play?
Anyone who can draw the bow. The sport is inclusive regardless of age, gender, or athletic ability. ArcheryTag® is recommended for ages 10 and up. HoverBall® is appropriate for ages 7 and up. We have lighter bows available for younger players.
Do I need any experience?
None at all. Our staff teaches everyone before the game starts — basic technique, safety rules, and how to play. Most people pick it up within the first few minutes.
How many players per team?
Standard play is 5 vs. 5, with up to 8 players per team on larger fields. For the Small field (62 × 15 ft) it is 3 per side. We can run rotating groups throughout your event to keep everyone involved.
What should we wear?
Comfortable athletic clothing and closed-toe shoes. Remove jewelry, piercings, and bulky headwear before playing — our facemasks need to fit properly. We provide all safety gear.
Booking & Logistics
Do you come to our location?
Yes — we are fully mobile. We bring all equipment, handle setup and teardown, brief your group on safety, and run every game. You provide the space; we handle everything else.

How much space do we need?

Can we play indoors?
Yes. Both ArcheryTag® and HoverBall® work indoors or outdoors, as long as the space requirements are met.
Is a waiver required?
Yes — a waiver is required for all ArcheryTag® participants. Players under 18 need a parent or guardian signature. You can complete the waiver online in advance or sign on-site when you arrive. HoverBall® does not require a waiver.
